Lyons Links Senior and Junior Scratch Cups
While we would love to be welcoming overseas guests to Ireland this summer, the drop in visitors numbers has freed up time-sheets at marquee clubs for Irish Golfers. Our summer series of 2020 events kicked off at the spectacular Old Head and Fota Island. Eighty lucky golfers competed for our inaugural Senior and Junior Scratch Cups at these astonishing venues. For our overseas visitors, Scratch cups are common place in Ireland and are Gross events. In this instance we played "Stableford Gross" as competitors did not have the opportunity to play a practice round at both venues.
The Senior Scratch Cup (handicap category 3 and under) was won by Irish International Golfer Peter Sheehan. While the weather was warm and dry, two blustery days meant Peter's score of 68 points (equivalent of 4 over) was good enough for victory. Conor Jameson was runner up while Seanie Barry came in third.
The Junior Scratch (4 -12 handicap) was a much tighter affair, with Stuart Crowe victorious with two shots to spare over Gary Morrison and Ger Lynch. Well done to all our winners.
We would like to thank all our friends and clients for supporting this first event of our summer series. As I am sure everyone is aware these are hugely challenging times for the Tourism industry so your support is much appreciated. Indeed many of you are also down to play in The Kingdom Cup which takes place in Dooks, Waterville and Killarney, August 13-15. The initial 80 places for the Kingdom Cup sold out in a matter of days. Our industry colleagues have been vey good and offered us four extra tee-times, so please contact us if you wish to participate. It promises to be a great event.
For now. Down the middle! Regards to all,
Joe
