UK Open for Business in early Summer

Boris Johnson Targets June 21 for a full return to an open economy

Since my last blog, Boris Johnson has announced that England will be fully open for business in early summer - June 21st to be precise. The plan has been formulated by the Government's scientific advisers and been put forward as conservative but very achievable by the administration. Commentators across the political divide have been very divided on the merits of the plan. Depending on who you listen to, you will hear the exit is too slow or in some cases, it is too quick and therefore too ambitious.

Hope Springs Eternal

Whether the English plan is too optimistic or too conservative, it is nice to be dreaming of a return to some kind of normality. Given the success of the vaccine rollout to date and the positive early results from Israel and the UK, where the roll-outs have been most expedient, it is hard not to get excited.

Apart from the announcement of the staged plan, other positive news stories point towards a re-opening of the economy in the UK. Indeed Boris Johnson is so bullish about the UK economy reopening this summer he has offered the host all the Euro 2020 games this summer which were due to take place across 12 countries last year but rescheduled to this year.

Indeed, further positivity is emanating from North of the border in Scotland. Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish first minister said she is considering whether she can "accelerate exit from lockdown"

Although no specific date has been set for the release of travel restrictions into the UK, with Mr. Johnson suggesting stadia will reopen soon and offering to host all the Euro 2020 games, it gives rise to renewed hope. Allied to exceptionally positive data on the efficacy of vaccines in the general populations, we look forward to putting this terrible pandemic behind us in the not too distant future.

While predictions in Ireland are more conservative due to a slower roll-out of vaccines, things are looking very positive in the UK. In fact Golf Course have remained opened in Scotland throughout the winter period.

Home of Golf Packages

With the positive news coming from the UK we are proud to offer two exceptional St Andrews packages with guaranteed tee-times this summer. Old Course tee-times are exceptionally scarce this year due to all the rescheduled 2020 trips. 2022 is also looking tight because the Open returns to St. Andrews next year. The beauty of booking these packages now for 2021, is they can be rescheduled to 2022 if travel restrictions remain in place this year.
